Two years ago, Ballistic magazine received a Browning X-Bolt for the annual Ballistic’s Best competition. Before we can press the trigger with the slightest hope of any success, we must first have a ballistic solution. Some call it DOPE. What’s your farthest shot? If you are asking an Extreme Long-Range (ELR) shooter, you might be asking in units of miles instead of yards. When I hit my first shot at 1,000 yards, I was hooked on long-range but when I hit 2 miles, it was a whole new level. So, what is the dividing line between long-range shooting and extreme long-range? The Savage 110 is one of those guns that everybody either owns, has owned or at least knows someone who owns one. The gun was originally designed in 1958, and Savage secured the patent on it in 1963. There are few guns in the industry that have such a long history and are still actively in production. If You grew up watching the Global War on Terror, you likely saw the video of Saddam Hussein being hanged in December of 2006. The location is still hard to find, but I toured it in 2010 as a U.S. Army intelligence officer. This is a peek inside the compound where he was hanged and the literal steps he took before his life ended. There’s a small compound with a large detention facility off the Tigris River in northern Baghdad. This was a hotbed for intelligence for the U.S. military and Other Government Agencies (OGA’s) in Iraq. I had the misfortune of being stationed there in 2010.
