First indigenous language speech
On 28 May, politician Sol Mamakwa spoke to the lawmaking assembly in Ontario, Canada, in his indigenous language, Anishininiimowin. Indigenous means the language was spoken in the region before European settlers arrived and took over. Previously, lawmakers were only allowed to speak in English or French at the assembly.

Trump found guilty
On 30 May, a court found former US president Donald Trump guilty of falsifying (faking) business records. In 2016, his lawyer paid a woman £100,000 on Trump’s behalf to keep quiet about her relationship with Trump because it might put people off voting for him in that year’s election. His punishment will be announced on 11 July.
