An ambitious plan to build a “wood city” of 2,000 homes and 7,000 offices has been revealed. It is believed the work in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, will be the world’s largest wood construction project. Stockholm Wood City, in the south of the city, will cover 250,000 square metres and will have cafés, restaurants and shops.
Wooden buildings can help the environment. As they grow, trees absorb carbon dioxide from the air and store the carbon. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, meaning it traps the Sun’s heat in the Earth’s atmosphere, making temperatures rise and causing climate change.
