Rescuers have found four children who had been lost in the Amazon rainforest in Colombia for 40 days. The three sisters, aged 13, nine and one, and their five-year-old brother, were in a plane that crashed in the middle of the jungle. Three adults who were also on the plane, including their mother, died in the accident.
The children were travelling to Bogotá, Colombia’s capital, to join their father. The children are Huitoto people, a group who live in the remote Amazonas region of Colombia. They knew some survival skills, including what was safe to eat in the jungle. They hid in tree trunks to avoid dangerous animals and survived on berries, seeds and a bag of flour left on the plane.
