THE community of Reservoir Hills is mourning the death of a resident who was shot dead on Monday by a tenant. Poovathen Roy Govender, 67, died on the porch of a home on Mountbatten Drive that was being rented by Dragisa Milenkovic, 67. He shot Govender twice in the chest before killing himself. Milenkovic, who used a .38 special revolver, had a gunshot wound on the right side of his head. Police said the gun did not have a serial number. Paramedics pronounced both dead at the scene. The implementation of the project was set to cost municipal ratepayers R90 million, but it ultimately accumulated by over 800% over the years, and reached a staggering R727 million. The four men accused of killing Munira Mohideen, 66, were remanded in custody last Thursday. Mohideen was attacked and stabbed to death by three of the men, aged between 21 and 35, who allegedly gained access to her flat in a complex on Musgrave Road, Durban. THE Durban High Court has found three men guilty of murder following the death of a farming couple in Verulam. In September 2018, farmer Dhir Roy Singh, 68, and his partner, Kallawathie Beekarie, 64, were found dead in the bathroom of their home in Cottonlands Farm by security officers from Reaction Unit South Africa. Singh was stabbed several times on the cheek and chest with a fishing spear. Beekarie was strangled. She was found face down in the bathtub, hands tied behind her back. The recent fire at the Foreman Road informal settlement in eThekwini is the latest of several disasters that have seen peoples’ homes razed, leaving them destitute. Victims of these fires lost not only a roof over their heads, but also their hard-earned belongings, including identification. Worst of all, many of them lost hope. Foreman Road fire victims have been living there for more than 15 years, waiting for government housing. Their own income levels do not afford them the opportunity to buy their own homes. A few years ago, they were victims of a similar fire and were promised housing by government, yet nothing has materialised.
