ESKOM recently applied to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) to increase electricity tariffs by 32% from April 1 for the 2023/2024 fiscus. THE family of Sandesh Lalla want justice. Lalla, 43, was found dead in his home in Longcroft, Phoenix, last Wednesday by police. He had multiple injuries on his head and back. Zunaid Dawood, 38, his neighbour, allegedly confessed to his mother that he had killed Lalla. She informed the police and they found Lalla’s body in his lounge. Dawood fled the area but Warrant Officer Ronald Ramalu, Sergeant Niren Hurrinath and Captain Tharajen Reddy, who were working on tip-offs from the community, arrested him at a garage in Florida Road on Friday. RESIDENTS in Emerald Street in Shallcross are still left with sewage overflowing from manholes and toilets following the April floods. Some residents said flushed toilets returned waste, and they complained about the stench from the nearby Mhlathuzana River. She was strangled. A television, cellphone and other electronic items were stolen from the home. On September 17, police arrested the first suspect, Menolan Naidoo. The 21-year-old was charged with murder and robbery. He appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court on September 19 and was remanded in police custody. THREE men have been arrested and charged for the murder of Sagadava Manna Naidoo. Naidoo, 74, the former mayor of Verulam, was kidnapped on his farm in the same area on May 24. When his daughter, Velash Lombard, could not reach him on his phone, she became worried and drove to his farm to check on him. His safe in the office was opened and cleaned out, and Naidoo was nowhere to be seen. Lombard found his house key on the ground at the back of the property. His white Toyota Hilux bakkie was missing.
