ZAPPING women’s brains with a small electrical current could substantially slash the pain of menstrual cramps, say researchers. During the study, done at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil, the treatment was administered to 22 volunteers through battery-powered electrodes placed on the scalp that were activated for 20 minutes a day for a week. The method is similar to techniques currently used to lessen the physical suffering of fibromyalgia and strokes. The women reported feeling itching or tingling sensations at the electrode sites for a few seconds during the procedure — but noted up to a 40 percent reduction in menstrual discomfort compared to those who did not received the treatment.
