The artwork shows a scene from Flatford Mill, in Suffolk, England, along the River Stour. The title refers to the wooden wagon, or wain, in the picture. The wagon was used to carry hay.
Rain, Steam, and Speed (Turner, 1844)
In the painting, a steam train is travelling in the direction of the viewer. Turner had painted a hare running along the railway track but it has become almost invisible as the painting has aged.…
