Scientists at Columbia University, in the US, created cheesecake slices in March using a 3D printer. 3D printing is a technique that creates a solid structure in layers, based on a digital design from a computer.
To create the cheesecake slices, the scientists used seven ingredients: a type of biscuit paste, peanut butter, strawberry jam, Nutella, banana purée, cherry syrup and icing. These ingredients were put into seven tubes ready to be squeezed out by the printer, layer by layer, to build each slice. It took a few attempts before the scientists worked out the perfect recipe and the successful slice took 30 minutes to print. All slices were tasted.
