Surrounded by relieved family members he explained how he tapped into his network of friends in Ukraine and crisscrossed the country to get to Poland. Imtiaz Sooliman, the organisation’s founder, said the group was buying supplies in Ukraine to support the local economy. The goods were then transported to areas where they were most needed. Sooliman said the disaster relief group was already distributing food and other basic necessities in Ukraine, with the help of a Ukrainian woman married to a South African man. Tedpaul, 24, a stay-at-home mother, was allegedly strangled to death on a hill near a railway line in Watt Road on Friday. Soon after police found her body, they arrested Sanjoth Madhan, 28, Manoj Madhan, 58, and Sarika Madhan, 47. The three appeared in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Glen Snyman from the organisation, People Against Race Classification, appeared before a parliamentary committee in Cape Town recently after a 10-year crusade to have his race changed from coloured to African. Parliament’s select committee on petitions and executive undertakings invited Snyman to explain why he had petitioned it to have all references to race, and the word “coloured” in particular, to be removed from government forms, private institutions and the Employment Equity Act. AT LEAST 62 congregants, including the Imam-e-Jumah (leader of Friday prayers) Irshad Khalili, were killed and more than 200 injured in a suicide bomb attack during Friday prayers at a Shia mosque in Peshawar’s Kucha Risaldar area. Established in March 1985, Crocworld has become a safe haven for threatened species. It not only offers educational tours, but it also runs a breeding programme for different species which will ensure that the animals are protected for future generations. Wade Kilian, the centre’s reptile curator, said they had four species of crocodiles. “The ones that we breed prolifically are the Nile crocodiles, American alligators, West African slender-snouted crocodiles, and the West African dwarf crocodiles,” he said. Advocate Andre Gaum, a commissioner at the SAHRC, made the announcement after the Gauteng leg of the hearings concluded on Friday. He said the panel would convene on April 1 when Ramaphosa would testify. After probing the cause of the unrest, the SAHRC is expected to produce a report. In June last year, the Constitutional Court sentenced former president Jacob Zuma to 15 months’ imprisonment for contempt of court. Over the years he has visited Kenya, Uganda, the Central African Republic, Egypt, Morocco, Mozambique, Madagascar and Mauritius. The 85-year-old is expected to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan amid apparent concerns of conflict expressed by the church and state leadership there.
