They say that when a loved one goes missing, it’s the not knowing that’s the worst thing. And, for more than three decades, Carol Meyer Lubahn’s family remained in this agonising limbo.
All they knew for sure was that, on 31 March 1981, the 26-year-old mum-of-two had vanished.
Her husband of 10 years, Michael Lubahn, admitted they’d had a blazing row that night, had gone to bed on bad terms.
The next morning, he claimed he’d woken up to find Carol gone, the garage door open and her car missing.
When he filed a missing-person report a week after her disappearance, he told cops he’d found Carol’s 1979 Audi Fox parked outside the Red Onion restaurant in Redondo Beach, not far from the family home in Torrance, California.
