‘Best ride, not best buy’ The 990 Duke is one of the best-handling bikes I've ever ridden. On a B-road the KTM's chassis is remarkable, providing an extraordinary level of stability, meaning you can tap into most of its performance without feeling like you're pushing near the limit.
But it lives in a small window of use that, while great fun, is hard to base a buying decision around. And that's why, even ignoring price, the MT-09 and Street Triple are better buys.
Both the Triumph and Yamaha are brilliant to ride on B-roads, yet they're still perfectly happy at a gentler pace. They're also more refined than the KTM, and feel like they have nothing to prove. The Duke, however, is always demanding attention.
