When unveiled in late 1988, the K1 caused a sensation for its radical, all-enclosing bodywork, but in truth it wasn't the only 1000cc, four-cylinder sports tourer so equipped.
Honda's CBR1000F had been introduced as a big brother to the CBR600F in 1987, which had then been updated, improved and facelifted for 1989. The result, if not quite as slippery or aerodynamically efficient as the K1, was slick and smooth, stable and well equipped.
Even better, the Honda could take luggage easily, a pillion without having to faff about with a fiddly seat cover, was better looking than the K1, faster (being capable of 160mph), more powerful (with 130bhp) and cheaper, too!ā¦
