In the last year my quilting style has totally changed – largely driven by necessity (having a baby certainly makes you refocus your time!). Whereas once I was mostly working on hand sewing projects and thought nothing of committing months at a time to a single quilt, I now seek out fast-finishes that I can cut, sew and pack away in an evening. Analogous colour are the next door neighbours of the colour wheel – if we’re thinking of our wheel as a neighbourhood, the analogous colours are those groups of three who brush shoulders with each other, physically speaking. Due to their conveniently close proximity, analogous palettes are the easiest to find on the colour wheel, and are naturally pleasing to the human eye. Typically speaking, one neighbour is the dominant one, and the other two are there to help create a sense of serenity. Analogy aside, analogous colours are usually comprised of a primary, a secondary and a tertiary colour. For instance, an analogous colour scheme with cobalt blue as the dominant or primary colour would include teal and indigo as secondary and tertiary colours, respectively. CUTTING AND PIECING WITH YOUR TEMPLATES 1 Cut strips of fabric to the height of one of your templates. Align your template and cut along the two long sides. Then use the template to trim the two lower corners. Turn the template to cut the next piece (Fig 1). 2 Arrange your pieces in rows. Place the first two pieces RST and sew using a ¼in seam.
