It’s 2035, and James Preble (played by co-director Kentucker Audley) is a taxman, tasked with auditing people’s uploaded dreams. His lonely existence could do with some magic and, well, he gets it, when he’s assigned to investigate the elderly Bella Isadora (Penny Fuller). Stepping inside her dreams, he meets her younger incarnation (Grace Glowicki), and a surreal, subconscious romance blossoms. The filmmakers are clearly in thrall to the likes of Charlie Kaufman, Michel Gondry and David Lynch, but Strawberry Mansion doesn’t quite get there — it’s a little too kooky (and frankly too cheap) to manage it.
