By now you’ve probably seen one at a boat show or in a YouTube video, or even in the pages of this magazine.
The narrow, angular hull knifing through the water looks almost Space Age, evoking thoughts of a military-style RIB without the foam or airfilled collar. Turns out, this is exactly the goal that Jan-Erik Viitala, Axopar’s owner and designer, had in mind.
“We are the closest to being a RIB without actually being one,” says Viitala of his creation. “It is a very seaworthy vessel with a dry ride and good fuel economy.”
