Furthermore, crumbling infrastructure, grime and rampant crime have threatened Durban’s reputation as South Africa’s playground.
During the last local government elections, Kaunda was voted in as mayor even though his party, the ANC, did not receive enough seats to form a government on its own.
As a result, the governing party relied on the support of several smaller parties. Now, just over a year later, some of those small parties have expressed disappointment at how Kaunda has governed.
