This after Sasria put up the price to insure commercial vehicles like trucks by more than 1 700% as of February 2022. Sasria is the South African Special Risk Insurance Association and is the only organisation in the country to offer insurance against public unrest, civil commotion, strikes, riots and terrorism. Faybian Moodley, of Verulam, was shot and killed while standing with his community, trying to protect their neighbourhood from looters. THE offshore fishing has been on fire! Couta, dorado and much more. The dorado have been caught with fair regularity along the Durban coast. The most successful method has been using live bait while fishing around structure that is holding dorado. The best way to find them is to troll skirted lures along colour or current lines. Pinks and purples are the most successful colours. The rest of the Durban coast has seen a lot of tuna. Thankfully they can be caught on exactly the same methods as the dorado, so you can target multiple species at the same time. The tributes paid are testimony to the high regard Tutu was held by ordinary people and world leaders alike. Sadly, with his demise we have no other leader with such gravitas. Tutu played an important role in our Struggle for freedom and in 1984 was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. He was the shepherd that guided his flock through the darkness that was apartheid – a voice that gave hope at a time when it seemed that even God had forsaken black people. I arrived at the scene to see family and neighbours in despair. While talking to some of them, I was told the home was doused in petrol and set alight after an argument. Neighbours cried as they spoke of hearing the family’s cries for help. I stood outside the home in shock. I then watched as their bodies were removed in body bags. But the KwaDukuza Municipality had said the property was registered under the municipality and the expropriation was done lawfully. In January, the prayer area that comprised a puthu (an anthill some Hindus believe is sacred) and an ancestral site where the family offered food each year during Pitru Paksha was demolished. 24 full chicken wings ½ cup flour ½ cup corn flour (Maizena) 1 heaped tbs chicken spice salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste (+-1 tsp each) a bottle of Spur Durky Sauce 2-3 tbs crushed chillies Cut the tips off the wings. Cut each wing in half, then wash and drain off any excess water. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, corn flour (Maizena), chicken spice, salt and pepper. Lightly dust the wings in the flour mix and deep fry in hot oil for +/- 2 minutes or until the skin is lightly browned. Place all the fried wings in a suitable oven dish. In another bowl, mix the bottle of Spur Durky Sauce with 2-3 tbs crushed chillies. Pour the sauce over the fried wings.…

Add enough yoghurt/buttermilk/sour milk to form a soft dough. Roll the dough out to ½cm thickness. You can either make one large pizza or pizza bites/cocktail pizzas using a scone cutter. For a thin base, poke the dough randomly with a fork so that it does not over rise. Smear the pizza bases with your favourite sauce (tomato, barbecue, tikka, etc.) Use whatever you like for toppings. Leftovers work perfectly. Top with sliced robot peppers, grated cheese and a light sprinkling of dried oregano. Bake at 200ºC in a preheated…

One such case was the 46-year-old stepfather who repeatedly raped a 10-year-old child who was in his care. He sexually groomed her, made her wear lingerie and even used sex toys on her. The case was of a graphic nature. It was horrific to hear how this little girl had suffered at the hands of the man she called dad. This year he was given nine life terms for his crimes. Another case was that of Shirley James, a 79-year-old retired principal living in Newlands West. She was murdered by her gardener, who was in her employ for several years and who she trusted. Naidoo was a former teacher from Havenside, Chatsworth. In a statement at the time, the Lenmed Group said it was investigating the interruption of oxygen supply. It added that 77 patients were admitted to the hospital. Naidoo’s family reported her death to the police and an inquest was opened. The matter is still under investigation. She was a mother of two young children, a boy aged 2 and a girl aged 5. Sing was also awaiting the arrival of her third child in May. The 24-year-old, who visited a friend at the informal settlement in Sydenham, was shot in the back of her head by alleged gang members. According to her dad, Robert Sing, she was caught in the crossfire. This story impacted me because she did not only lose her life but her baby also died. She also left behind two young children.
