James Parker was Blackpool’s very own Robin Hood. He nabbed £21m worth of credits after discovering a glitch in a cryptocurrency-trading website, and then gave much of it away, buying cars for strangers, handing out gift vouchers, and tipping taxi drivers ridiculous amounts.
However, it wasn’t Parker’s lavish handouts that alerted police to the scam. Nor was it his association with co-conspirator Stephen Boys (pictured), nicknamed ‘Rodney’ after the Only Fools and Horses character. It was when another co-conspirator, Kelly Caton, rang police to report her daughter had stolen 15 Bitcoin worth £75,000 from her!
As Lancashire Police noted, Caton lived in a council flat. Where would she get £75,000 of cryptocurrency from? Parker died before he could be prosecuted, but Boys, Caton and two others all received jail sentences.…
