Obesity “misdiagnosed” The standard measure for obesity is unreliable, and focuses too much on people’s weight and not enough on their overall health, a Lancet health commission has found. Currently, white Europeans are deemed obese if they exceed 30kg/m2 on the Body Mass Index – their weight divided by the square of their height. But though this correlates to high levels of body fat, it is a blunt tool because size and weight are not accurate determinants of health or well-being.
