These are interesting times for great ‘British’ retros but Royal Enfield’s Interceptor proves once again, at least in terms of value, it’s the one to beat. It’s effective, easy, pleasing, ticks lots of style boxes and is great value. Yes, it’s a little budget and with just 46bhp a little breathless, especially compared to bigger, slicker retro twins from the likes of Guzzi and Triumph. For the money, though, it can’t be beat.
The V7, however, thanks both to the new 853cc powertrain and the Special’s wires, dials, chrome and more, is both a better, longer-legged and more characterful performer but also a classier, more authentic and more satisfying purchase. If you can afford it, go for the Special, not just over the Stone, but most others.…
