A 32-YEAR-old man is facing more than four separate charges of housebreaking and theft after he was positively linked to several cases in Upington by DNA. Police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the man was arrested on Wednesday by the Upington police. “The suspect was positively linked to a series of housebreaking cases in Upington through his DNA results. The suspect was arrested after the outcome of the DNA results,” said Tawana. “It is alleged that in one of the cases, the suspect entered the house of a 59-year-old female victim on January 21, 2021, where he gained access into the house by the use of a step-ladder. EFF MEMBERS marched to the Galeshewe police station yesterday to open criminal charges against Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul. They carried placards reading “Zamani is a serial lier and a fake [sic]” and claimed that he should be charged for perjury. EFF deputy provincial chairperson Moeketsi Konote explained that they had fulfilled Saul’s “dare” for them to open charges after failing to answer them in the Northern Cape provincial legislature. “Instead of responding to our questions, he challenged us to open charges, so we have done just that,” said Konote. A PHOTO opportunity on the banks of the Vaal River turned into a tragedy for the Hendricks family in Longlands after a father and his young daughter drowned. The father, Martinus Hendricks, 45, and his nine-year-old daughter, Faith, drowned in the river on Monday after he tried to rescue her. Hendricks was a former ANC ward councillor while his daughter was a Grade 3 pupil at Delportshoop Combined School. The tragedy happened when the family took their guests, who were visiting from Johannesburg, on a sightseeing tour to the river to take pictures.
