Out of loss often comes opportunity, and for two firm Sydney friends, it was the opportunity for a life of adventure in a land both sublime and squalid.
Genevieve Fennel and Lauren Bennett have been friends since childhood, a friendship cemented by gallivanting around India in their early 20s. Lauren, now 26, was doing an internship in India while studying for her Master of Design, living and working in the village of Sanganer, which is famed for its colourful block printing. Genevieve, also 26, came for a visit and fell in love with the country hook, line and sinker.
Several cattle-class trains, dodgy toilets, exquisite fabrics, crazy characters, sumptuous samosas and boob grabs later, their business Walter G was born.
