These days, thanks to a thriving aftermarket, and some dedicated restorers, original Manx buggies and Manx replicas can be found alive and kicking all over the world. The same, however, cannot be said for its bigger brother, the Manxter. Admittedly, it’s more complicated to build one but, crucially, it doesn’t require the Volkswagen floorpan be cut down and welded back together, which removes one of the major headaches of short wheelbase buggy construction, both from a practical and registration point of view in many countries.
Like the gold East Coast Classic Manx featured on p65, the one featured here also comes from France, and belongs to Marc Bucher, an Alsatian with more than one string to his bow.
