THE BIG SUR
Inspired by a shared love of rich, wholesome vegetarian food and literature produced post-WWII on California’s central coast, Eliot White and Gemma Walsh have realised a longheld dream with their café, Big Sur in Grey Lynn, Auckland. “Like the literature produced in that era, we wanted our food to be bold and filled with nature. For the writers that lived there, Big Sur was a place of escape, somewhere to get away from everything. The aim was for our café to have the same feeling,” says White.
