BACK AT HOME
New South Wales’ full-time return to the Sydney Cricket Ground has been embraced by coach Trent Johnston and his playing squad. After being virtual ‘nomads’ in 2015–16, playing at nine different grounds, NSW plays four of its home games this season back at its long-time base with a fifth match to be held in Wollongong. Johnston and senior staff believe it is advantageous, especially for the younger players, to be familiar with the SCG, one of Australia’s foremost Test match grounds. Seven NSW players have Cricket Australia contracts, including comeback fast bowler Mitchell Starc. Among younger ones, Kurtis Patterson, 23, who represented Australia A most ably in the wintertime “Tests”, is considered a national player of the future.
