Wallis Annenberg, a passionate advocate of the arts, wildlife protection, and other causes, died on July 28 at age 86. As the president of the Annenberg Foundation, one of the nation’s largest family-run charities, she oversaw $1.5 billion in donations to thousands of organizations.
Annenberg was born in 1939 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father, Walter Annenberg, made a fortune in media and later used his wealth to establish the Annenberg Foundation, based in Los Angeles, California. Wallis Annenberg attended college and later worked for TV Guide, a magazine her father owned. After her father’s death in 2002, she joined the foundation as vice president and became its president in 2009.
