Thousands of people, including an entire city, were asked to leave their homes after Storm Boris caused flooding across several European countries.
What happened?
Storm Boris caused torrential (very heavy) rain and high winds. In parts of Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia, five times the average rainfall for the whole of September fell in just four days. Germany was also affected. Rivers flooded land and, in Poland, dams (structures used to hold back water) burst, releasing lots of water that flooded towns and cities. The Polish government declared a “state of natural disaster”, which gives authorities special powers to keep people safe.
What was the effect?
At least 23 people have died across Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania. Thousands of people across several countries…
