The Pyramid of Tirana in Albania has been redesigned and opened as a “monument for the people”. The pyramid first opened in 1988 in the capital city, Tirana, as a museum about Enver Hoxha, who ruled Albania for 40 years until his death in 1985.
Hoxha was a dictator, meaning he had total power over the country. Many people who opposed him were killed, jailed or exiled (barred from the country). At the time, Albania was the poorest country in Europe. The pyramid gradually fell into disrepair, and people would climb up its slopes and slide down for fun.
