Autumn is a season many of us eagerly anticipate. For some, it’s a welcome reprive from summer’s scorching temperatures. For others, it’s the time of year that ushers in wonderful seasonal produce like apples and pumpkins, accompanied by fragrant spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. In addition to celebrating Halloween, we shouldn’t forget to mark Grandparents’ Day (September 13) and the beautiful Harvest Moon (September 27) on our afternoon-tea calendars. If I could own but one vessel for steeping tea, it would be a simple Chinese gaiwan—preferably porcelain and, if given a choice of sizes, always diminutive.
