I came out of retirementt to support women
Mary-Ellen Bradley, 70, Wagga Wagga, NSW.
Sitting at my kitchen table with a cuppa, I browsed the jobs section of the local newspaper.
It was 2022, and at 67 I’d been retired for five years. Recently, however, I had a nagging feeling I’d finished up too early.
Suddenly, an ad caught my eye: Receptionist needed at Wagga Women’s Health Centre, it read.
The centre offered counselling, legal aid, health checks, financial advice, and physiotherapy for women escaping domestic violence.
I could do that, I thought, reading the job description.
Before retirement I’d worked many jobs in both administration and care. I’d also completed a Diploma of Community Services, focusing on domestic violence.
“I’m healthy and I still have more to give,”…
