Academic mentoring is needed in the Black community more than ever. Our children are under attack and lack fundamental skills--needed (not only) for their survival but so they may thrive in the future as leaders of their own families and communities. Someone has to teach them these fundamental skills as they do not come pre-loaded as if they were batteries--included within an appliance or toy. Further, it is absolutely unconscionable to blame the youth for a lack of awareness when they have either not been taught these fundamentals or taught the exact opposite behavior of these needed fundamentals.
