1927 FORD PHAETON Randy Wiersma, the proprietor of Randy's Body Shop in Paducah, Kentucky, had owned this 1927 Ford Phaeton for several years and was planning to restore it to its original condition. That is until he talked about it to his long-time friend Oscar Gamble. Oscar explained to Randy that he would be better off to street rod the T and have something he could drive whenever he wanted to versus an antique car with no power and terrible brakes. After taking Oscar's suggestion to heart, he talked to his employee Brad Starks into building a new chassis, and it took off from there. Brad built the new chassis and added a dropped axle with disc brakes in front and a Chevy rear end with coil-overs and disc brakes.…

1957 CHEVY SEDAN DELIVERY Purchased in 1985 by the late Rich Pichette and his wife Penny, this custom 1957 Chevy Sedan Delivery was the basis of many how-to articles in Custom Rodder magazine. When Rich bought the car it was a pale yellow with a 1957 Buick grille which would eventually be replaced by an Oldsmobile grille. Unfortunately, in 1992 a rear-end collision would lead to a major overhaul of the delivery. Gary Minor would install a set of 1957 Chrysler taillights, and then world-renowned customizer Bill Hines was called in to give the car a 4 1/2-inch top chop, which would be the beginning of a six-year build. If you get past the bad bits like the fake news, political nonsense, trolling, etc., it can be put to good use and is an excellent way of communicating with like-minded people who share similar interests. A case in point is Deuce Day U.K., which was organized by the Deuces of Britain Facebook group; this is unlikely to have happened if it were not for social media. roddig event Ventura Nationals It all started in 2003 with an event called the Primer Nats, which catered to fans of primered rides (as you probably guessed) and rat rods, both big hits at the time. Fast forward two decades. Detailed and finished cars have taken over the annual Southern California get-together, hence its more appropriate name today: Ventura Nationals. It takes over the Ventura Fairgrounds, an excellent show venue along the city's beach with plenty of palm trees, large grassy areas, and exhibition halls from the 1930s-'40s - perfectly complementing the vintage cars on display. A Fall Gathering in Southern California The Outriders car club was formed in 1932 by a group of young rodders in Glendale, California, and were members of the MUROC Timing Association. They were also one of the first members of the Southern California Timing Association when it was formed in 1937. However, the club appears to have dropped out of SCTA events in 1947. Early members of the club included Archie Porter, owner of the So-Cal business, Porter Mufflers in the 40s, and Manual Ayulo, who became a top Indy 500 driver. The club was resurrected in the late 70s by Ed Newett and a few of his friends. The club's primary objective is to be somewhat of an "unclub" with a limit of 50 members and no meetings. Their…

The 24th Goodguys Colorado Nationals filled the Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, I Colorado, with nearly 2,000 rods, customs, and street machines from September 9-11. Unfortunately, the weather at this year's event was somewhat unpredictable, to say the least. Thursday was vendor setup, and we encountered temperatures in the mid-90s; by Saturday, the high was 48 degrees, and rain. Sunday was sunny and back in the 70s. Needless to say, the car count on Friday was high; Saturday dropped significantly, but Sunday was well above average for the show's last day. The show turned out to be a success thanks to the resilient rodders who persevered one lousy weather day and took advantage of the reason we go to car shows which is to check out the cars and visit…

1932 FORD FIVE WINDOW COUPE Gene McKeen (aka Mother) has always been fascinated by engines of all types. So much so that in 1966, he established Mothers Speed Parlor in Springfield, Missouri. His first hot rod was a 1927 Ford Model T roadster with an Oldsmobile engine. One can only imagine the power-to-weight ratio of that combination. As his career flourished, he realized he needed a hobby to keep him busy in his spare time, so he began collecting and restoring John Deere tractors of all shapes and sizes.
