A few years ago I bought a camper van and spent a couple of seasons visiting towns - among them Ross-on-Wye (Herefordshire), Market Drayton (Shropshire), Bakewell (Derbyshire), Louth (Lincolnshire) and Swaffham (Norfolk).
One thing these towns have in common is that they all once had a rail connection to the wider network, as well as the usual infrastructure - stations, cafes, station hotels, taxi ranks and so on.
Today, no one has the option of travelling to and from these towns by rail, and nor can freight be transferred there.
I believe they and other such towns should get their rail links back. Instead of tens of billions of pounds being spent on HS2, the pre-Beeching network should be re-established where possible.
