Colas Rail 37099 was due to return to the main line as this issue of RAIL went to press.
The Class 37/0 was withdrawn by EWS in January 1996, and subsequently preserved. It has been returned to main line condition by Harry Needle Railroad Company at Barrow Hill, and will be released in BR blue livery as Colas has an urgent requirement for traction.
It will be the seventh former preserved ‘37’ returned to traffic with Colas, following (in order) 37175, 37219, 37421, 37116, 37057, 37254, and with 37207 to follow.
The last two to be returned will be 37188 and 37146. These will be made main line-worthy by HNRC, while 37901, which was also bought by Colas Rail, is at the company’s Cardiff depot undergoing reactivation work.
