Brit scoops global award
Few competitions carry the weight of the Sony World Photography Awards, with the winner’s announcement being a hotly anticipated staple in many photographers’ calendars. Among this year’s category winners, we’re happy to announce that, for only the second time in the competition’s 11-year history, the top title of Photographer of the Year was won by a British photographer, Alys Tomlinson. Alys scooped the gold, and the $25,000 prize, wowing judges with her series, ‘Ex-Voto’, a personal project encompassing formal portraiture, large-format landscapes and still life images of religious offerings (featured in the August 2017 issue of Practical Photography).
