On the evening of May 15, a fire broke out in Hanger 79 at the Bicester Heritage site (known as Bicester Motion). Fire crews arrived on the scene at around 18.45 and fought the blaze, which had spread through the roof and several vehicles that were in storage inside the hanger. Roads were closed and a serious incident declared as ten crews battled to keep the fire under control.
Several loud explosions were heard and local residents advised to keep windows closed as smoke drifted across the locality. Tragically, during the evening, two firefighters, Martyn Sadler and Jennie Logan, along with Bicester stalwart, David Chester, lost their lives, while two further firefighters were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
