Before a snowstorm rolled through Pennsylvania on Jan. 26, 2011, Sandee Greenberg and her daughter Ellen, 27, spoke by phone, just like they did every morning. Sandee chatted while putting on her makeup at her home in Harrisburg, Pa., while Ellen, a first grade teacher at Philadelphia’s Juniata Park Academy, talked about preparing her taxes. “Everything seemed fine,” recalls Sandee, 69. “She was going to take on the day.”
Hours later, though, the Greenbergs got the most heartbreaking news of their lives when the father of Ellen’s 28-year-old fiancé, Sam Goldberg, told them “something terrible had happened” to Ellen.
