Taylor Mackenzie announced his retirement from the Superstock class last year aged 28, despite still being able to win races. In 15 years, he’d worked his way through the British 125s, Red Bull Rookies and 125 GP, taking fifth at Jerez, before winning the Superstock title and taking top fives in BSB. But injuries, finances, bad luck, and the resulting stress took their toll.

Behind the public smiles, racing was making Mackenzie unwell, both physically and mentally.
“I’d get crippling stomach pains and there was a ridiculous list of foods that I couldn’t eat,” he explains. “I used to get bad tension headaches, too. It’s stupid, but as I’m sat here talking about all of this, it’s giving me a headache and I haven’t had one…
