Nearly 30 years ago, Swiss filmmaker Clemens Klopfenstein, one of the great film poets, released his modern masterpiece Macao or Beyond the Sea, shot in Coloane. Hauntingly beautiful, the film has been largely under seen and underappreciated since its release in 1988. There’s international cuisine, there’s fusion and then there’s Björn Frantzén. The Swedish celebrity chef has been surfing across diners’ palates in recent weeks courtesy of a pop-up kitchen at Yi Pavilion at Altira Macau, conjuring up multicourse dinners that weave a delicate minuet around Scandinavian and Japanese cuisines. Kicking off on October 1 and available Thursday to Saturday until December 17, Frantzén’s intriguing and playful Nordic offering has proven popular.
