Sabrina Ho is a firm believer in the power of art, as well as in the role society can play in nurturing creative talent. The businesswoman strives to inspire Macau’s young artists through her Chiu Yeng Culture organisation, and holds positions on committees behind such events as the Bellissima Italia cultural festival. “I think it’s not just about promoting a young artist’s work, or providing an event where their work can be seen or be sold,” Ho says. “It’s about showing creative people the opportunities that are available to them today, which can include so much more than hanging a painting on a wall. Italian luxury brand Salvatore Ferragamo has long explored the collaboration between art and fashion, and its latest boutique, which opened in August at Wynn Palace, encapsulates both elements of Wilde’s aphorism. The shop’s design features a curved entrance with crystal-like walls, wood and travertine flooring, and chrome-andglass cabinets that exude artdeco charm. Performers from all around the world, a programme that’s as classic as it is classical, and some of Asia’s most scintillating performance venues combine to make the Macao International Music Festival a must-see, must-hear and must-go. And so it is with Michael Rutter, the 44-yearold Englishman who—since he first graced the Guia Circuit back in 1994— has carved out his very own slice of Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix history with a record eight victories and 16 podium finishes. Even audiences familiar with Shakespeare’s Hamlet had probably never seen a version quite like the one presented by British cult band The Tiger Lillies and Denmark’s Theatre Republique at the Macao Cultural Centre’s Grand Auditorium on September 1. While faithful to the play’s themes, this retelling of the story of the anguished young prince combined elements of Weimar-era cabaret with contemporary circus, and imaginative video projections with rock, opera, jazz and gypsy music. “I wanted to cut the story down to the bone, find the essence of the story and intensify it,” said Theatre Republique’s artistic director Martin Tulinius.
