Despite the economy being torched by the pandemic, the number of multi-ethnic small- and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) increased over the last couple of years and – along with established businesses – performed well. Much of this is likely to be down to how they were created and incubated: many Black-owned businesses, for example, were fashioned out of a recognition that there were gaps in the market that their own experiences or knowledge could address.
