The ‘Collector Motorcycle Auction’ conducted by Donington Auctions in September delivered strong results. Across the 443 lots on offer, that included more than 50 motorcycles, as well as parts, books, collectables and memorabilia, the timed online auction achieved an impressive 97 per cent clearance rate and almost $800,000 in total sales. Motorcycle consignments included speedway machines from the collection of Tony Webb and a good proportion of British and Japanese classics, but Italian bikes were the stars of this auction, led by a rare 1973 MV Agusta 750 S. One of the most sought-after MV Agustas of all time, the auctioned example had been sold new in Germany and was restored by specialists in the UK before coming to Australia 12 years ago. Danilo Petrucci will remain in the FIM Superbike World Championship for a third season, having re-signed with the Barni Spark Racing Team for 2025. The Italian veteran joined World Superbikes (WorldSBK) in 2023 with Barni and has been building momentum in the category ever since. Petruccci’s time in WorldSBK is the latest entry in a riding resume that includes MotoGP, Superstock 600 and 1000 (including a season with Barni Ducati in 2011), the MotoAmerica series and even the Dakar Rally. The contract extension, signed after the Portuguese WorldSBK round in August, will see Petrucci remain on the satellite team’s Ducati Panigale V4 R in 2025. Kawasaki have revealed that their largest Versys touring model is going larger for 2025, with an increase in engine capacity and other tweaks added. These changes only apply to the litre-class Versys 1000, with the smaller Versys-X 300 and Versys 650 unchanged for 2025 at this stage. FROM 1000 TO 1100 Introduced in 2012 as the Versys 1000, the road-focussed adventure tourer’s rebrand as Versys 1100 reflects its change in engine capacity. The existing 1043cc DOHC inline four has been upsized to 1099cc, but whether this has been achieved through bore, stroke or a combination of the two has yet to be officially revealed (specs and further details are still to come). Beta’s competition-ready RR enduro range will gain a new name and a bunch of new features for 2025. The renamed ‘RR Race’ models are still based on the X-Pro family, but with a new look and improvements in key areas that apply to all two-and fourstroke models. Additional changes and improvements have been made to individual models within the range, too. All 2025 RR Race models are fitted with a lighter, higher-performance Nissin front brake caliper, while upsizing the rear axle to 22mm provides greater stiffness and torsional resistance. As this year’s MotoGP silly season played out, it was looking increasingly unlikely that Jack Miller would remain in the premier class beyond this year. With his seat at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing already allocated to Pedro Acosta for 2025, Miller next witnessed the two rides with KTM’s satellite Tech3 team go to Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini, closing off that option. By early September, only one place on the 2025 grid remained – the second spot at Prima Pramac Racing. In September, 1974, Evel Knievel conducted his boldest stunt yet – jumping across Snake River Canyon in Idaho on the steam-powered ‘Skycycle X-2’ rocket bike. After just eight races in the inaugural FIM Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship (WorldWCR), Australia’s Tayla Relph has got herself onto the podium, finishing third in a dramatic Race 2 at the 3.768km Cremona Circuit in Italy. Relph, the sole Aussie on the grid in the all-female circuit racing championship, was as high as fifth in Race 1 before it was red flagged. In the restart, the 27-year-old was unable to get back into her groove, then made a big mistake going into Turn 10, ultimately crossing the finish line in seventh. One of the more popular bikes in Triumph’s Modern Classics range, the Speed Twin 1200 is still a relatively new model, having only debuted here in 2019 – albeit using a name that’s much, much older. The Speed Twin’s last major update was in 2021, so a makeover was overdue.
