I often research and write about embroidery and other forms of needlework, like weaving, which still occur in traditional settings.
Women living in tribal or ethnic communities still adhere to their traditional way of life and in most cases, the embroidery or weaving takes place in a communal setting. Women of different generations get together to work, talk, sing, tell stories and discuss village life. In the process, the needlework techniques, oral traditions, and life skills are passed on from older women to the younger ones. Women across several generations spend time together, doing domestic and artistic tasks, while they sing, laugh and cry together.
