Papatango’s mission is to champion the next generation of playwrights, which is why, as well as producing shows, it offers free training, performance or publication to over 4,000 people annually. It also awards bursaries and seed funding.
“All you need is a story” says George, who started the company a few months after graduating from drama school as an actor, and uses that six-word statement as Papatango’s motto. “Hence the prize, the purpose of which is to promote playwrights wanting to share stories. Sixteen years after we started it, we now get over 500 entries each year. It’s free to enter and every single entrant (who wants it) gets feedback.”
