A part from the crumbling schools, reduced budgets, squeeze on arts education through reforms to the curriculum, introduction of testing and assessments that have marginalised arts teaching, increased inequalities in access to arts education, shortage of recruitment and training, plus long-tern adverse implications for the creative industries… what have the ‘Romans’ ever given us?! With change in Westminster a distinct possibility this year, let us hope that the next government can provide the funding and support to reinvigorate the beleaguered arts sector and reverse the marginalisation of arts education in schools.
