Who has the Florida keys to success in Miami?
The Miami Grand Prix, now into its fifth edition, has become renowned for its proliferous pastel blue and pink shades, fake marinas, and the use of the Hard Rock Stadium’s pitch (or, in US-speak, field) as the paddock. It’s either a symbol of F1’s ability to finally crack America, or of everything that’s wrong with modern F1, depending on whom you speak to.
The drivers at least enjoy the challenge of the first sector, and its sweeping barrage of corners that reward full commitment. It’s a bit Mickey Mouse after the back ‘straight’, with a clumsy chicane to compensate for the overpass ahead of the final sector, but at least the races have been of sufficient quality to justify Miami’s place…
