The UK Plastics Pact is a joint initiative between the UK Government, NGOs and major food businesses. The Pact aims to make 100 per cent of packaging reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. “The UK Plastics Pact will generate a fundamental change in the way we design, produce, use, reuse, dispose of and recycle plastics. The Pact’s members are responsible for 85 per cent of plastic packaging sold through UK supermarkets,” explains Helen Bird, plastics expert at WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme). “Through the Pact, we’re targeting single-use plastics that are problematic and/or unnecessary,” says Bird.
