Catching little fish – a kilo here, a kilo there – isn’t enough for ambitious Ash (OT Fagbenle), who leaves HM Customs to join UNIT, the (fictional) Undercover Narcotics Intelligence Team. Soon enough, his team has a big fish on the line: Roach (Trevor Eve), a drug lord passing as a legitimate businessman. Collateral damage is, of course, inevitable but just how far will Ash go, and what will he sacrifice, as he confronts heroin smugglers, pill pushers, gun runners, hitmen and ruthless gangland climbers to get to Roach?
There’s action aplenty as stakes are raised with each episode and while the producers have given the series an all-pervading brown/grey/green palette to augment its gritty atmosphere, they couldn’t similarly gussy up some wooden performances and two-dimensional characters, particularly in earlier…
