CRIME NEWS CASES UPDATE Adam Montgomery – the father of missing five-year-old Harmony Montgomery – has been found guilty of second-degree murder The verdict comes after Montgomery declined to appear in the courtroom throughout a trial in which his defence blamed his estranged wife Kayla for the little girl's death. After the verdict, Allen Aldenberg, the police chief of Manchester, New Hampshire, said, “This isn't about winning or losing. This is about a girl that was murdered by her father. I can think of no worse crime.” ADMISSION Harmony was living with Montgomery and Kayla when she disappeared in December 2019. A woman who ran over and killed her fiancé because he chatted to another woman at a birthday party has been sentenced to life in prison. On 2 February 2024, philosophy student Alice Wood, 24, was told she must serve at least 18 years for killing charity support worker Ryan Watson, 24, in 2022. During her trial, the court heard that the couple had been at a party in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, on 6 May, where Ryan got chatting to a woman, who felt Wood was “glaring” at her during the exchange. What was the inspiration behind your new novel? In Jericho's Dead, Showman detective Scott Jericho is facing not only a baffling case of serial murder, but fundamental questions of life, death, and what might lie beyond. MADDIE SUSPECT BACK ON TRIAL The prime suspect in the 2007 abduction of Madeleine McCann has gone on trial over multiple sexual offences. Christian Brueckner, 47 – who is serving seven years for a 2005 rape – is accused of three counts of rape and two of child sexual abuse, all alleged to have been committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017. The trial was due to start in Germany early last month, but was halted after nine minutes as allegedly discriminatory tweets from a lay judge were read out. In the news In a shocking crime, social media influencer, bodybuilder and personal trainer Débora Michels, 30, was murdered in January 2024, and her body left outside the home of her parents in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Débora's husband Alexander Gunsch, 50, was captured on camera leaving her on the pavement before fleeing the scene. Gunsch reportedly confessed to the killing as soon as police arrived at his home the following day. He told them he had attacked his wife of ten years during a row, lifting her by her neck and throwing her into a wardrobe. It was a spring afternoon in New York City in 2020 when two members of the Bronx-based chapter of the Pagans biker gang, including leader Frank Rosado, 51, emerged from an apartment block out onto the street. But before they had the chance to mount their bikes, they were ambushed.
